All funds raised by Country Grocer and its customers go directly to help children like tiny Alex from Nanaimo. Alex was born in March 2014 at only 30 weeks gestation and spent the first 174 days of his life Neonatal Intensive Care Unit at the Victoria General Hospital. Alex is now at home in Nanaimo and is progressing positively every day. Through its Family Assistance Program, Help Fill A Dream supported Alex’s family by paying for 156 nights at Jeneece Place in Victoria.
“We believe that Dreams change lives and that happiness heals. Help Fill A Dream is a resource for families. Unfortunately we can’t make a child well, but we can offer families an escape from the stress and anxiety they are experiencing. Every dollar raised makes a difference and can change the life of a child and their family for the better. Not all Dreams are big, some are small, like baby Alex, and some are simple, like a family being by their child’s side when he or she is in the hospital,” said Help Fill a Dream Executive Director Craig Smith. “We would like to thank Country Grocer, its employees, its customers and especially its suppliers, Eurosa, Wintergreen Tree Farm and Davey Tree Services, who all have generously supported the campaign again this year and helped to push the total raised to a new high.”
Established in 1984, Country Grocer is a proud 100% Vancouver Island and Salt Spring Island company with seven stores and more than 600 employees. It is one of the Islands’ most cherished grocery companies with a strong set of values and principles.
