Country Grocer began in 1984 in Nanaimo and our first Victoria store opened 2 years later in Esquimalt. Since then, we have grown to serve 5 communities across Vancouver Island, adding an additional Nanaimo store as well as stores in Lake Cowichan, Cobble Hill, Royal Oak and Salt Spring Island.

 

We are looking to welcome an experienced full-time Human Resources Manager to our growing HR team in Nanaimo based out of the Chase River location. This is a newly developed role that will evolve alongside the HR department. Our collaborative HR team is committed to providing all Country Grocer team members and management Human Resource support based on our four core values of accountability, consistency of practice, collaboration and trust.

 

Reporting to the Human Resource Director, the Nanaimo HR Manager will provide full spectrum Human Resource support for our two Nanaimo store locations: Bowen Road and Chase River. Responsible and accountable for local HR decisions for positions at both Nanaimo locations, the HR Manager will also play an integral role in ongoing strategic planning in collaboration with the HR Director on projects influencing all five locations and IIBG warehouse. This is an important leadership position that supports store level managers responsible for 200 team members and has one direct report.

  • Compensation planning, development and implementation
  • Up to date HR knowledge and trends; ability to implement into HR practice
  • Knowledge and experience in employment law and application in a work setting
  • Progressive discipline and terminations procedures

Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to work well under pressure, both individually and as part of a team
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to create strong professional relationships with all personality types
  • Exceptional communication skills and experience with business writing
  • Effective conflict resolution skills in an HR setting and experience implementing policies and procedures, compliant with BC ESA regulations
  • Ability to prioritize multiple tasks and manage time
  • High attention to detail and accuracy in all areas of work
  • Confident, assertive, approachable, compassionate, collaborative and innate leadership qualities

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in Human Resources Management or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years progressive Human Resources experience (in grocery or retail¬†environment would be considered a strong asset)
  • CPHR certified or working towards designation
  • Highly proficient in MS Office applications (Word, Excel)
